Lita is short for Karmelita (a little-known fact). This is a slightly more unusual spelling of Carmelita. It's from Hebrew meaning "vineyard". Another unisex version, Carmel, has the similar meaning "orchard". Carmela, female only version, can mean either a "vineyard" or an "orchard".

Lita's Birthstone is Turquoise, for the month of December. Indians believed the gemstone could bring spoils to the warrior, animals to the hunter, and happiness and good fortune to all.
Lita's Birth Flower is the Paperwhite, also for the month of December. The meaning attributed to paperwhite is that someone - such as a recipiant of one - is sweet and should stay that way.
